Bioconstruction
As a way of materializing Boom´s eco-ethos, many materials we use are natural. Either taken from burnt forests or harvested in controlled environments, we try to use manufactured raw matter as least as possible. One of the materials we use is bamboo.
Bamboo is used mostly in the Asian region. Be it for building, clothing, decorative features or as a food source. A lot of Asian legends and myths feature the bamboo plant. It is a symbol of long life in China, whilst in India it symbolizes friendship. In contrast, due to its rare blossoming, the flowers are often regarded as a sign of imminent famine.
The bamboo plant is surrounded by a rich mythology. In the Andaman Islands it is believed that humanity emerged from a bamboo stalk. The Philippine creation myth states that the first bamboo stalk showed up on an island that was created after the great battle of the two elemental forces of Sky and Ocean. This stalk is thought to be the origin of the first man and first woman. A similar legend exists in Malaysian mythology, where a man awakens after sleeping on a bamboo plant; then waking up and breaking it’s stalk to discover a woman inside. A bamboo forest in Japan is said to form a barrier against evil.
Bamboo holds an unrivalled position in several cultures and is regarded as a very special plant due to its unique characteristics. Bionconstruction and bamboo will be surrounding our life at Boom in the same way that it has played a role in people’s lives during ancient times.
