If you feel lost in your psychedelic experience, emotionally vulnerable, finding it difficult to process a psychoactive journey or feel too overwhelmed to deal with it alone – aim to get down to Kosmicare.

It is a comfortable, respectful, intimate and private environment where you can just be and where friendly staff will take care of you and make you feel better, allowing you to enjoy the rest of the festival experience.

Since 2001, when substances were decriminalized in Portuguese law, organizations have been able to implement harm reduction and risk minimization (HRRM) intervention for the wellbeing of all participants at events. As a result, Kosmicare was set up with specialized facilities to take care of people enduring difficult psychedelic experiences, and to help minimize harmful consequences and risks associated with recreational/ psychoactive drugs.

Boom first began hosting this initiative in 2002 with support from MAPS. In 2008, the service was re-designed and HHeralded by Rick Doblin (MAPS President) for setting the standard for Coordinated Psychedelic Emergency Services at festivals, crediting Boom as leaders in preparing for a post-prohibition world.

Working closely with Portuguese government institute, IDT, Kosmicare 2010 has developed a configuration that allows organizations such as MAPS, EROWID, CHECK IN and academic institutions to contribute, and is assisted by 40 volunteers. The aim is to replicate this framework, by staffing the professional service of HRRM in the psychoactive field at other festivals.

THE TEAM: Including support from the Boom Medical Service Unit, the team consists of Emergency Intervention in Psychedelic Crisis, Educational Standards with Harm-Reduction Practices, Thin Layer Cromatography (TLC) for Substance Testing, Good Mood and PLUR.

Located near Tripical Beach, Kosmicare is staffed by a professional team of Psychologists (Clinical and Transpersonal), Psychiatrists, Nurses, Paramedics, Therapists, Homeopaths and Massagists.
