In recent decades, 2012 has become the focal point for a wave of neo-mythologist theories. Based on the knowledge of the Mayan culture and their cosmological view, several authors such as John Major Jenkins, Jose Arguelles and Daniel Pinchbeck have decoded the inner meaning of the Mayan legacy for the contemporary world.

The Boom 2012 theme resonates with the neo-mythologist theories of the current world and with the need for transformation. However, we are channelling in an ancestral practice that has for eons, been exploring the uncharted territories of the visible and the invisible, and that has done so way before the theories and mythologies of 2012 even dawned upon the world.

From small clusters of people to the mainstream; hippie communes to scientists and intellects; artistic circles to those seeking a light at the end of the tunnel in a world where universal values are distorted: 2012 has become one of the ultimate prophecies of our times. It has become a dynamic mythology of post-postmodernism.

21 December 2012: The Winter solstice will mark the end of the Mayan Long Count Calendar. It culminates in the precision of the equinoxes leading to the alignment of the December solstice sun with the Galactic equator: a world in deep transformation, giving way to social turmoil, environmental catastrophe… All the signs are evident and serve to feed the myth of 2012 as “the most intriguing date in history.”

The Boom feels this time is a great opportunity to change. We do not believe in doomsday but we do feel that these will be the most important 50 years in the history of mankind. Here and now is the time to change. The sensation of the cosmic cycles that we all feel, coupled with the knowledge we have available today, means that we have the necessary tools for change. Now is the time for transmutation.

Looking for a deeper meaning in 2012, we find that since time immemorial there is a wisdom that has tried to uncover the secrets of life and the hidden dimensions of the universe. It is a wisdom that has tried to figure out the equation for decoding the natural laws in order to manifest the transmutation of human beings on a spiritual level.

From Egypt to the Arab world and India, Greece and China to the Middle Ages, alchemists have been the great investigators of the unknown throughout history. Using technology and mysticism they accumulated knowledge about life, they measured the sky, and alchemists like Newton were the first great scientists that persevered in solving the mysteries of life.

Just as the Mayans, they advanced in mathematics, astronomy, ritualistic life, art, and mythology, while they also offered a positive alternative to various doomsday scenarios with the potential for spiritual awakening and the inner transformation of humanity – a shift from the old World Age to the next World Age.

Similarly, the Alchemists used mystical symbols to represent various chemical elements and alchemical processes. The full meaning of these strange characters has never been fully revealed; the characters effectually concealing occult secrets regarding the spiritual nature of the metals and the elements they represent.

Therefore, dear Boomers, the theme of Boom 2012 is ALCHEMY.

The need for transmutation that 2012 represents is the ultimate alchemic quest; it is only by delving deep that we can rise to a new level of consciousness and connectedness.

It is in the search for understanding the mysteries of nature and in the pursuit of wisdom and knowledge that the great alquimists go a-wandering in life to uncover the secrets of the universe.

Alchemy is the ancient art and science of elemental transformation, which in modern times was re-interpreted by C.G. Jung and his followers as psychospiritual transformation using symbolic or imaginal processes. It is unveiling the mystery of three worlds: the divine, the human, and the elemental.

Beyond the spiritual aspect, it is a real science that aims to understand matter and the cosmos – the microcosm and macrocosm.

The alchemists seek to reduce matter to the common unit, from the atoms that combine to form molecules and other substances that transmute into more complex organisms to the systems that form planets and galaxies; all things are comprised of the same basic unit. This is the fundamental premise of alchemy, “Omnia in unum” (All in One).

The nature of man provides a miniature reflection of the entirety of the universe. We are secret alchemists that come together at Boom and other temporary autonomous zones to connect with something that goes beyond the constraints of the dominant culture, by looking through the lenses of the alchemist, we try to convert base metal into gold by transforming our most daily and basic practice in life, into something more pure and noble.

This need to transmute the base metal of our everyday lives into the gold nature of our higher self has never been stronger. By connecting with the spiritual heart of alchemy, we must claim the true love, true energy and great wisdom of the soul.
