For author Hans Christian Andersen, “Just living is not enough… One must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower.” With this in mind, it seems like the Boomland fulfils all requirements for a happy and blissful life.
Gardens are a fundamental part of Boom. They give colour to our land, make for excellent habitats to several forms of life while sustaining biodiversity, and provide us with exquisite edibles! Take the time to reconnect with Mother Nature and indulge in exploring some of the greener areas of the festival, losing yourself amongst the dazzling natural mazes, tasting some of the yummy plants that grow there, and enjoying all the breath-taking beauty it has to offer.
We are lucky to count on the help of an international team of expert permaculture gardeners and several volunteers who arrive several months before Boom starts, solely to care for these stunning wonders of nature.
Over the years, amongst other plans, we were able to grow basil, sage, rosemary, and veggies such as pumpkins, tomatoes and zucchini. In the meantime, all kinds of living beings have moved into this rich ecosystem and made it into their home.
Eco Letter 2016 Fact: At Boom 2016, 38,500m2 of gardens were positively blooming across the Boomland, and for which we did not use a single pesticide or pest management product!
