My name is Janna and Yoga has been my anchor for so many years and I consider it an honor to teach the healing practices of yoga and meditation. Because I am deeply concerned about environmental destruction, economic deprivation and the climate crisis I am also a Climate Justice Activist. I studied political science and worked for several years for an environmental NGO. Now I am a freelancer as yoga teacher and political expert on Climate Justice, Degrowth and Just Transitions. Furthermore, I am deeply moved by all kinds of music, playing the cello, the guitar and the Indian harmonium and I use these techniques in my teachings as well, since all music is sacred. I love to discover the world and new people by traveling, but I try to avoid planes now for several years because of ecological reasons. I love and enjoy life deeply, that is why I also love people, celebrations and sharings.
Jivamukti Yoga is a path to enlightenment through compassion for all beings. Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra states that our asana, our relationship to the Earth, should be sthira and sukham. So one’s relationship to others (asana) should come from a consistent (sthira) place of joy and happiness (sukham). This is a radical idea that can dismantle our present culture, which is based on the notion that the Earth exists for our benefit and can be exploited for our own selfish purposes. So the practice of asana becomes a way to improve one’s relationship to all others and thus lead to enlightenment – the dissolution of the sense of separateness, the realization of the oneness of being. In this Yoga class, we will practice demanding physical asanas, listen to music to enforce our intention and use methods of meditation and pranayama. The classes are open for everybody, experience with yoga is not needed, but beneficial.
