In Swedish massage, the skin is lubricated with massage oil and various massage techniques are
performed. These movements warm up the muscle tissue, releasing tension and gradually breaking up muscle “knots” or adhered tissues. One of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. Swedish massage promotes a sense of relaxation and well being, reducing anxiety and tension in the body, which has been known to help relieve depression. Swedish massage also improves blood circulation and it stimulates the lymphatic system, which carries the body’s waste products.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage uses firm pressure and slow strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia (the connective tissue surrounding muscles). The primary goal of deep tissue massage is to reduce pain and discomfort, while improving the body’s ability to heal itself. Deep tissue massages are not only relaxing, they also help lengthen and release muscles that frequently feel tense and get stuck in uncomfortable holding patterns. Deep tissue massage involves manipulation of the deep layers of tissue in the body, including the fascia and other supportive tissue that make up the muscles and joints. It is used for chronic aches and pain and contracted areas such as a stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders. Deep tissue massage usually focuses on a specific problem, such as chronic muscle pain, injury rehabilitation.
Aromatherapy is a holistic therapy that treats the mind, body and spirit. When essential oils are applied to the body during a massage, they enter the skin through the hair follicles where they are absorbed into the bloodstream and circulated around the body. People respond to the sense of smell on an emotional level more strongly than with any other sense. In fact, a single aroma can trigger forgotten memories and induce feelings similar to those experienced at that time.
An important element of aromatherapy is synergy, which is the combination of numerous essential oils that can actually create a more powerful effect than the oils would have on their own.
Aromatherapy can calm and relaxing, destress, soothe and balance, stimulate and refresh, energise and uplift, maintain healthy joints and muscles, create a tranquil, sensual and seductive ambience, revive both mind and body.
Reflexology is a very individual treatment which is tailored to the client as a whole person, taking into account both physical and non-physical factors that might be affecting the client’s wellbeing.
Beyond the feel-good effects of the treatment, the practice and purpose go deeper than the skin and muscles, by taking specific reflex points on the foot to induce a healing response in corresponding organs and areas of the body. Stimulating those points with finger pressure promotes health in those organs and glands via the body’s energetic pathways. Addressing anything from headaches to sinus problems, if sensitivity or tenderness is experienced when certain areas of the foot are stimulated, it usually indicates bodily weaknesses or imbalances within the corresponding organ. With repeated practice of applying pressure, reflexology can help to clear any channels of blocked energy and to restore overall health and balance naturally.
