SPIRITUALITY AND ACTIVISM: THE STRANGE COUPLE
Spiritual seekers and activists can be seen at the two opposite side of a spectrum but in reality these two communities have a lot to learn from one another and a lot to share. How fulfilling and effective it is to look for internal peace while waking up every day in a world that is unjust, unfair, unequal and violent? How fulfilling and effective it is to fight injustice, unfairness, inequality and violence while experiencing internal unrest and turmoil?
In this presentation Maurizio and Zaya will share about what spiritual activism currently is for them but most of all about what it could be if we would use all available tools to make our world a better one.
Maurizio and Zaya (Bio)
When Zaya and Maurizio met in 2008, it immediately became apparent that they could make a lot of noise together in this illusory world.
Maurizio was brought up in Italy and went through many different incarnations, always looking for answers under every stone. In 1986, he came to the USA on a 98 year-old sailing boat. He started working as an actor, model, and then filmmaker, but his thirst for knowledge was never satisfied, until he encountered I Am That in 2001 while shooting the documentary “Short Cut to Nirvana” in India.
Zaya hails from Bulgaria and has degrees in Engineering, Environmental Science, and also Film. For many years, she worked as an environmental activist in Holland and Bulgaria. She later produced and directed several award-winning documentaries in Europe and the United States.
Her life long passion for science and mysticism finally came together with the emergence of the conference.
Together they are the founders and organizers of SAND: Science And Non Duality, a conference devoted to the merging of spiritual teachings with the latest scientific discoveries.
