African Contemporary Dance

African Contemporary Dance - by Anitxa Roots,  music by Yemadas

(Workshop)

It is a modern vision of the African tradition, traditional movements inspire the creation of new movements. The pillars of this dance are the roots of Africa, the end result is an exploration of the infinite possibilities in which a movement can become, in the exploration of the technique of contemporary dance. From the change of the speed of movement, the amplitude of the movement, to the cutting and sewing of thousands of seconds of movement, to the new geometric forms of the modern body, where the result is a choreographic sequence elaborated for the present moment, here and now. The sounds that inspire this contemporary Afro dance workshop will be more electronic and deconstructed with influences from the diverse music of Africa.

Anitxa is in love with everything that is related to body movement, the dance in its various forms and cultures.

At six years of age she began with the Classical Ballet and Contemporary, when teenager studied Flamenco, Jazz, HipPop, and later grown up devoted herself to capoeira, the Brazilian culture dance and Butoh.

Adventurer and traveler, Anitxa lived in the four corners of the world where she dedicated to the deep study of classical Indian dance (Odissi) and traditional West African Dance.

In this BOOM 2018 she brings us her great passion, the traditional dance of the West Coast of Africa and a contemporary approach to African dance.

‘Some days I am a dancer. Other days , I am a musician or a singer.  Frequently, I am all three at once.’
