ICAN - YOUCAN
In this workshop Leo will deepen the issues discussed in the presentation in Liminal Village, revealing the practical procedures for setting up an effective NGO that can have far reaching impacts at the highest institutional and social levels. He will discuss the current state of the fight for nuclear disarmament, and how you can get involved! He will also be open to answer any questions you have, to find out more about multilateral diplomacy, humanitarian disarmament, or how you go from promising student to Nobel Peace Prize winner in just a few years.
Leo Axt is the EU representative of ICAN, the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, which won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017. Before moving to Brussels, Leo founded ICAN in Germany in 2013, where he sits on the board. Since 2015, Leo also works for Transparency International in Brussels, after two years working for the European Commission. Before getting involved with ICAN, he was the Disarmament-Attaché of the Pacific Island Republic of Nauru at the United Nations in New York. Leo grew up between Berlin and Venice, and studied international relations, political economy, and anthropology in Berlin,Dresden, Buenos Aires, and Bruges.
