Traditional throat singing and vocals in Russian folk music
A great phenomena of human voice will be experienced during the workshop, leading participants to open the boarders of possible natural sound producing. Throat singing is a legendary traditional technique from Tuva, which includes several basic styles - as hoomey, sygyt, kargaraa and etc.; each one of them has it’s own specific manner, using combinations of splitting the sound in high range of overtones and also providing profound low tones with raw timbres. Throat singing gives a great amount of opportunities to fulfill the skills of regular and vocal practice and builds the strong foundation and deep understanding of the voice producing nature. In addition there will be a chance to meet the traditional Russian singing and to observe it’s main musical and cultural codes on the example of some ancient folk songs.
